Dr. Kokichi Sugihara, distinguished professor emeritus at the Meiji University Organization for the Strategic Coordination of Research and Intellectual Properties, is now giving an internet lecture series called The World of 3D Optical Illusion for people who confine themselves to their homes to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus. This series of lectures is part of his efforts to continue his work as an educator and researcher amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The lectures are available in both Japanese and English and last about 15 minutes each. These lectures are designed for viewers to learn about the mechanisms of illusion while having fun.

Many people are fighting against the new coronavirus, but I cannot do anything except for just staying home. So I decided to start this series of lectures of 3D optical illusion with the hope that they could entertain those who stay home. It is my pleasure if you could enjoy them.

▶ Profile of Dr. Kokichi Sugihara:
Distinguished professor emeritus at the Meiji Institute for Advanced Study of Mathematical Sciences (MIMS), Organization for the Strategic Coordination of Research and Intellectual Properties. A Graduate from the University of Tokyo’s Faculty of Engineering, Dr. Sugihara joined Meiji University in 2009 after serving at a number of prestigious institutions, including the Electrotechnical Laboratory and the University of Tokyo. As a specialist in mathematical engineering, he uses mathematical models to analyze how the sense of sight works. He is also a 3D optical illusion artist and a three-time first-prize winner at the Best Illusion of the Year Contest.
