On October 4, Liberal Democratic Party President Fumio Kishida took office as the 100th prime minister of Japan, forming a new cabinet. In his first policy speech, Prime Minister Kishida stated his intent to prioritize policies for 1) measures to counter COVID-19, 2) bringing about a new capitalism, and 3) diplomacy and security. The House of Representatives will be dissolved on the 14th, the election will be officially announced on the 19th, and voting will take place on the 31st.
The FPCJ has invited Dr. Yu Uchiyama, a professor at the University of Tokyo Graduate School of Arts and Sciences and an expert on modern Japanese politics, to discuss the House of Representatives election four days before it takes place. He will present key points to consider for the outlook of the election and for the future of Japanese domestic politics.
