How to Prepare for a Major Earthquake (Prof. Naoshi Hirata, University of Tokyo Earthquake Research Institute)

post date : 2018.09.14

With the earthquake in northern Osaka in June and the 2018 Hokkaido Eastern Iburi earthquake in September, there has been a series of damaging earthquakes lately. The National Seismic Hazard Map for Japan released in June 2018 by the Headquarters for Earthquake Research Promotion’s Earthquake Research Committee indicated that there is still a high risk of major earthquakes in locations including the Nankai Trough and directly under Tokyo.

The FPCJ has invited the chair of the Earthquake Research Committee, Dr. Naoshi Hirata, who is also a professor at the University of Tokyo Earthquake Research Institute and director of the university’s Earthquake Prediction Center, to discuss the risks of major earthquakes, such as the earthquakes which occurred in Osaka and Hokkaido, and how to prepare for them.
