Establishment of the Japan Sports Agency, and New Government Sports Administration by Dr. Daichi Suzuki, Commissioner for Sports Affairs

In light of the upcoming 2016 Rio de Janeiro and 2020 Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics, there is increased interest in promoting sports, and the Japan Sports Agency was established on October 1 to manage government administration of sports in the country. The agency’s role is to improve the international competitiveness of Japanese athletes and promote healthy lifestyles through sports.
The FPCJ has invited the Japan Sports Agency’s first Commissioner, Dr. Daichi Suzuki, to discuss the future of Japanese government sports administration. Commissioner Suzuki won the gold medal in the 100-meter backstroke at the 1988 Seoul Olympics.
