Population Projections for Japan in 2040

Mr. Toru Suzuki, Director, Department of Population Structure Research, National Institute of Population and Social Security Research

On March 27, the National Institute of Population and Social Security Research announced projections of Japan’s future population. Including such findings as “In 2040 the population will decrease in all the prefectures, compared with 2010. The decrease ratio will be over 20% in about 70% of municipalities,” and “In 2040, people aged over 65 will account for over 40% in nearly half the municipalities,” the projections receive much attention as showing Japan’s further population decrease, and low birth rate and aging population.

FPCJ has invited Mr. Toru Suzuki, Director of the Department of Population Structure Research, National Institute of Population and Social Security Research, who has made the projections, to brief on them directly.

Date & Time: April 19 (Fri), 2013, 11:00-12:00

Place: Foreign Press Center/Japan (6th floor, Nippon Press Center Bldg.)

Language: English only

Embassy representatives and FPCJ supporting members may also attend the briefing as observers (admission free).
