Press Briefing “Solving the Issue of Vacant Houses–The Vacant Houses Special Measures Act ”
Briefer: Mr. Hidetaka Yoneyama, Senior Research Fellow, Fujitsu Research Institute
Due to factors such as population decline and an increase in nuclear-family households, there were 8.2 million vacant houses in Japan in 2013, for a record high vacancy rate of 13.5%. This has become a national issue, with the number of “problem vacant houses” that have issues from crime and fire prevention perspectives also increasing. The Vacant Houses Special Measures Act will come into full effect on May 26 to deal with this issue, with serious efforts by the national and local governments. Increased market liquidity for vacant houses is also anticipated, as some approach the situation as a business opportunity.
The FPCJ has invited Mr. Hidetaka Yoneyama, Senior Research Fellow at the Fujitsu Research Institute and an expert on residential and property policies, to speak about the background of this issue and future policies.
Don’t miss this rare chance!
