Press Briefing: Establishing a Resilient Society in Harmony with Nature through Post-Disaster Rebuilding and the Creation of a New Sanriku Fukko (Reconstruction) National Park
Briefer: Mr. Kazuhiko Takeuchi, Chair of Nature Conservation Committee, Central Environmental Council
The Great East Japan Earthquake, and the ensuing tsunami and land subsidence in March last year caused great damage to the natural environment. In May this year, based on a report of the Central Environmental Council, the Ministry of the Environment formulated a “Green Fukko (reconstruction) Vision centering on the Creation of a New Sanriku Fukko National Park.” In preparation for earthquakes and tsunamis that may strike again in the future, this vision emphasizes the importance of promoting reconstruction which takes nature into careful consideration, which utilizes the resilience of nature, and which lives with nature, creating sustainable local communities and passing on rich nature and local life to the future.
FPCJ has invited Mr. Kazuhiko Takeuchi, Professor of the University of Tokyo, Vice Rector of the United Nations University, and Chair of Nature Conservation Committee, Central Environmental Council, to talk about the importance of creating a nature-friendly sustainable society, centering on the Sanriku Fukko National Park project.

Place: Foreign Press Center/Japan (6th floor, Nippon Press Center Bldg.)
