How Will Permitting Casinos Change Japan?
Briefer: Mr. Toru Mihara, Osaka University of Commerce Institute of Amusement Industry Studies Director
Prime Minister Abe considers integrated resorts (IR) including casinos integral to Japan’s growth strategy and has indicated his intent to pass a bill to legalize casinos during the extraordinary session of the Diet this fall. Local governments throughout Japan are working to entice IR developers to their area to increase tourism, but alongside the anticipated economic benefits there are concerns about addiction, negative influence on youth and crime prevention.
The FPCJ has invited Mr. Toru Mihara, advisor to the Alliance for the Promotion of International Tourism (“IR Alliance”), specialist in casino law and director of the Osaka University of Commerce Institute of Amusement Industry Studies, to speak on how permitting casinos will change Japan.
