Future of the Whaling Issue
Briefer: Dr. Masayuki Komatsu, Visiting Principal Researcher, ICSEAD
On March 31, the International Court of Justice ruled that Japanese research whaling in the Southern Ocean was not in conformity of international treaties, and ordered it to be stopped. Japan intends to abide by the decision, but how the issue of whaling will continue to develop is now a matter of significant speculation.
FPCJ has invited Dr. Masayuki Komatsu, visiting principal researcher at the International Center for the Study of East Asian Development, who handled whaling negotiations while working at the Fisheries Agency and gained a reputation as a tough negotiator in international meetings.
Don’t miss this chance!
