Forecast for the Situation in Iran and the Middle East, and Its Impact on Japan (Mr. Masamichi Saito, Senior Research Fellow, Middle East Institute of Japan)
post date : 2025.07.01
Although a ceasefire agreement has been reached after the “Twelve-Day War” between Israel and Iran, the situation in the Middle East remains opaque. With high oil prices continuing and concerns over the impact on the global economy, there are also growing concerns regarding Japan’s energy security. Japan relies on the Middle East for over 90% of its oil and approximately 10% of its liquid natural gas, and if the Strait of Hormuz were to be shut down, it could have a major impact on Japan’s energy supply, and Japanese companies are in a heightened state of alert.
The FPCJ has invited Mr. Masamichi Saito, a senior research fellow at the Middle East Institute of Japan, to discuss the forecast for the situation in Iran and the Middle East and how it will affect Japan, speaking about the latest developments in the region and their potential impact on Japan.
Please note that you cannot physically attend this briefing, as it will be a Zoom webinar.
Embassy representatives and FPCJ supporting members may also participate in the briefing as observers (admission free).
