The Situation in Russia and the War in Ukraine—Can an Exit Strategy for the War Be Found? (Mr. Toyohisa Kozuki, former Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Russia)

The FPCJ has invited Mr. Toyohisa Kozuki, who served as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Russia for eight years from 2015, to discuss the situation in Russia, the war in Ukraine, and how Russia changed under President Putin. He will speak about the current situation in Russia, Japan-Russian relations, and what role Japan should play in regard to Russia’s ongoing invasion of Ukraine.

 

Please note that you cannot physically attend this briefing, as it will be a Zoom webinar.

 

Embassy representatives and FPCJ supporting members may also participate in the briefing as observers (admission free).

■Briefer: Mr. Toyohisa Kozuki, former Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Russia

Bio:  Distinguished Professor at Chiba Institute of Technology and Specially Appointed Professor/Director of the Strategic and International Research Institute for Peace at Tokai University. Received B.A. in International Relations from the University of Tokyo. Joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in April 1981. Served as Director of the Japan-U.S. Security Treaty Division in the North American Affairs Bureau, Private Secretary to the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Director of the Russia Division, Director of the Financial Affairs Division, and Director/Deputy Assistant Minister. Worked in Russia, the UK, and the US. Served as Director-General/Assistant Minister (Ambassador) of the European Affairs Bureau and Deputy Minister. Became Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Russia in November 2015, and served for eight years, the longest of any ambassador after World War II. Left the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in December 2023.
