Ukraine’s Current Situation and Future Outlook—Japan’s Role(Mr. Kuninori Matsuda, former Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Ukraine)

The FPCJ has invited Mr. Kuninori Matsuda, who served as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Ukraine for three years from October 2021, to discuss the current situation in Ukraine, challenges for a ceasefire and peace, and what role Japan can play.

This will be a hybrid briefing, with participation in person possible at the FPCJ Conference Room, in addition to an online livestream via Zoom webinar.

Theme: Ukraine’s Current Situation and Future Outlook—Japan’s Role

Briefer: Mr. Kuninori Matsuda, former Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Ukraine

Brief Bio: Born in Fukui Prefecture. After graduating from the University of Tokyo College of Arts and Sciences in 1982, joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. After serving at the Embassy of Japan in the Soviet Union, as Counsellor of the Embassy of Japan in Russia, and as Director of the Russian Division of MOFA, he was appointed as Ambassador and Consul General of Japan in Hong Kong and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Pakistan. Starting in 2021, he served as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Ukraine (until October 2024). He will work as a consultant for Fukuvi Chemical Industry Co., Ltd. from April 2025.

Language: Japanese (with consecutive English interpretation)

 As in our standard press briefings, there will be a Q&A session at the end.

Those who will come to join it at the FPCJ conference room will be given priority to ask a question.

As there will only be a limited amount of time to ask questions during the briefing, we will collect questions and provide them to the briefer in advance.
