Press Briefing:“Reality of Japanese Agriculture”
Dr. Shinichi SHOGENJI, Professor, Graduate School of Bioagricultural Sciences, Nagoya University
As industrial circles increasingly call for Japan’s earlier participation in the Trans-Pacific Partnership negotiations, the agricultural sector is intensifying opposition and concerns. What is required now is to calmly and realistically review the reality of Japanese agriculture, which is faced with such difficulties as the aging of farmers other than trade liberalization.
FPCJ will invite Dr. Shinichi Shogenji, Professor of Nagoya University, to talk about the history of Japanese farming policies, the strengths and weaknesses of Japan’s agriculture, and a vision for the near future. As a leading expert in this field, Dr. Shogenji has served as dean of the University of Tokyo's Graduate School of Agricultural and Life Sciences, president of the Food System Research Association of Japan, and president of the Association of Rural Planning, and is currently a member of the government panel for the revitalization of Japan’s food, agriculture, forestry, and fisheries. He has long played a major role in designing Japan’s agriculture policies.
Time & Date: 15:00-16:30, November 8 (Tue)
Place: Foreign Press Center/Japan (6th floor, Nippon Press Center Bldg.)
