Video report: Japan’s Growing Free Trade Network —Ahead of the Japan-US Free Trade Agreement (Dr. Fukunari KIMURA, Professor, Keio University)

post date : 2019.09.27

As the trade war between the US and China continues to escalate, Japan and the US have agreed on a framework for a trade agreement, and at a Japan-US summit on September 25, a document was signed agreeing to negotiate towards a final deal. The TPP11 agreement entered into force in December last year, followed by the Japan-EU Economic Partnership Agreement in February this year, and the Japanese government is currently involved in negotiations for the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership and EPAs with Turkey and with China-South Korea. There is significant interest in the future of the free trade network being built by Japan.

The FPCJ invited Dr. Fukunari Kimura, a professor at Keio University and an expert on international trade agreements, to discuss this topic.

The briefing had a total of 24 participants including journalists from China, France, Qatar, Singapore, South Korea, and the USA.
