Video Report: The National Congress of the Communist Party of China and the Future of Japan-China Relations (Prof. Shin Kawashima, The University of Tokyo)

The National Congress of the Communist Party of China, held once every five years, will be held on October 18. The main focus of this congress is how President Xi Jinping (also General Secretary of the party) will reshuffle the leadership, and to what degree his leadership theories will be incorporated into the party’s bylaws and constitution.

 

The FPCJ  invited Dr. Shin Kawashima, a professor of international relations at the University of Tokyo Graduate School of Arts and Sciences specialized in the history of Chinese diplomacy, to provide his outlook for what will happen at the congress and how it will affect Japan-China relations.


The briefing had a total of 49 participants, including journalists from China, India, Singapore, and Taiwan.
