1. Overview
Traditional arts such as Kabuki and Noh have long been the face of Japanese culture on the international scene. Today, however, Japanese pop culture, from Pokemon to the modern art of Takashi Murakami, is enjoyed and admired around the world as "Japanese Cool." Particularly in Asia, Manga (Japanese comics) and Anime (Japanese animation) are popular throughout the region. Japanese popular music, or J-pop, can be heard just about anywhere in Asia. Japan has maintained a healthy balance between a contemporary culture and a traditional culture, which can be seen in the area of food, design, and architecture as well.
