Based on a request from Mr. Jongrak Lee, Tokyo correspondent of the Seoul Shinmun, FPCJ arranged an interview withMr. Katsunobu Sakurai, Mayor of Minamisoma City, Fukushima Prefecture, and a visit to temporary housing for evacuees in Kashima ward of the city, for the Seoul Shinmun and the affiliated Seoul Shinmun TV.
After the accident at Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant on March 11, the city was put under isolation without enough necessary information and support. Mayor Sakurai told the world through YouTube what had happened to the city (the video was filmed on March 24), and drew a strong reaction.
Mr. Lee asked the mayor about the present situation of Minamisoma City six months after the nuclear accident and the prospects for the recovery and economic reconstruction.
