Video Report: Kumamoto Earthquakes and Earthquake Activity in Japan (Prof. Naoshi Hirata, The Univ. of Tokyo Earthquake Research Institute)

The earthquakes that occurred in mid-April 2016 centered in Kumamoto Prefecture have had the most vigorous aftershock activity ever recorded for an inland earthquake in Japan. Proper measures will need to be taken in order to minimize damages.

 

The FPCJ invited Prof. Naoshi Hirata, Chairman of the Earthquake Research Committee, Head of Earthquake Prediction Research Center, Earthquake Research Institute, The University of Tokyo, to discuss the characteristics of the Kumamoto earthquakes and possible future earthquake activity in Japan.

 

The briefing had a total of 28 participants, including 10 journalists from USA, France, Austria, China, South Korea, etc., and 14 embassy representatives.
