 Happy New Year!

We at the FPCJ would like to take this opportunity to express our appreciation for your support and cooperation over the past year. Thanks to this support, each member of the FPCJ was able to focus on our mission of providing assistance to the foreign press and disseminating valuable information about Japan. As last year was the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II, we carried out a number of projects on that theme. It was a fruitful year disseminating information about postwar Japan’s spirit of international cooperation and efforts towards peace.

The G7 Ise-Shima Summit will be held in May 2016, and only four years later it will be time for the 2020 Olympics and Paralympics in Tokyo. It is expected that along with a significant increase in the number of foreign visitors, there will also be heightened interest in Japan by the foreign media. While members of the foreign media continue to show interest in Japanese politics, economics, diplomacy and security, in recent years there has also been growing interest in initiatives to deal with the declining birth rate and the depopulation of rural areas. Examples include initiatives for regional vitalization, female participation in the workforce, medicine and nursing care, and disaster prevention and reduction. As there are many other countries facing the same problems, information on these topics can be extraordinarily useful.

The FPCJ will redouble our efforts to carry out activities that directly match the desires of the foreign media, while also providing information on various initiatives being implemented throughout Japan that could help benefit other countries, in order to assist reporting on these topics.

This year marks the 40th anniversary of the FPCJ’s establishment. This is all thanks to years of continued support, and all of us here at the FPCJ wish to give our heartfelt thanks. We will continue to improve our nationwide network of partners including the central and local governments, universities, the media, businesses, and other organizations, in order to effectively disseminate overseas a variety of information from Japan.

We would like to ask for your continued support and assistance

We hope 2016 turns out to be an excellent year for you.
