Waseda University is a leading institution in Japan, founded in 1882 with three principles: independence of academia, practical application of knowledge, and the shaping of enlightened citizens; with the ultimate aim of producing leaders for the modern era. Waseda has stayed true to these ideals, educating seven future prime ministers and countless other politicians, business leaders, journalists, diplomats, scholars, scientists, inventors, actors, writers and artists.

Waseda’s history and tradition is to tirelessly challenge convention, in favor of progress and innovation.  By its 150th anniversary in 2032, the University has committed to expanding its leadership in Asia and around the world. Most recently, Waseda was chosen as one of Japan's top 12 leading universities through the Ministry of Education's Super Global University program.

Located in central Tokyo (Shinjuku), the University is comprised of 13 undergraduate and 22 graduate schools, with over 53,000 students. Having established an office for foreign students in 1905, Waseda leads all Japanese universities hosting 4700 international students and sending 2000 students abroad each year.
