Current Situation of North Korea

Mr. Yoji Gomi, Senior Staff Writer, The Tokyo Shimbun

In the past several days North Korea has made headlines. On March 30, the Korean Central News Agency reported that the North Korean government declared in a special statement, “North-South relations will be entering a state of war and all issues raised will be handled accordingly.” At the central committee meeting of the Workers’ Party of Korea held on March 31, North Korean leader Kim announced his policy to work on both “a stronger economy” and “stronger nuclear arms.”

FPCJ has invited Mr. Yoji Gomi, Senior Staff Writer of the Tokyo Shimbun, to update the situation of North Korea. He has lived in Seoul and Beijing for seven years in total to focus on North Korea. In January last year, he published a book entitled “My Father, Kim Jong Il, and Me: Exclusive Confession by Kim Jong Nam,” a summary of his interviews and e-mail exchanges with Kim Jong Nam, Kim Jong Il’s eldest son.
