The Government of Japan is dispatching an engineering unit of the Japan Self-Defense Forces (JSDF) which works to improve infrastructure, to the United Nations Mission in the Republic of South Sudan (UNMISS). The Government is also deploying Maritime and Air Units for Anti-Piracy Operations off the Coast of Somalia and in the Gulf of Aden.

 

FPCJ has invited Prof. Shinichi Kitaoka, Ph.D., GRIPS, who has recently visited South Sudan and Djibouti at the request of the Government of Japan, to speak about the recent activities of the JSDF in the region in terms of Japan’s diplomacy and contribution to the international community, with up-to-date information. Mr. Masatoshi Sugiura, Director of the International Peace Cooperation Division, and Mr. Shoichi Nagayoshi, Principal Deputy Director of the Maritime Security Policy Division, MOFA, are also invited to present the views of the Government.

Embassy representatives and FPCJ supporting members may also attend the briefing as observers (admission free).
